SYLACAUGA, Ala. – William Wayne Osbourn of Sycamore has been charged with Attempted Murder of a Police Officer, a Class “A” Felony, and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, a Class “B” Felony and is in the Talladega County Jail.
At around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, the Sylacauga Police Department Patrol Division attempted to make contact with Osbourn around Beth Yates Park. The 36-year-old reportedly ran through the park, across S. Broadway Ave., and into the First Baptist Church parking lot where he allegedly began shooting at a police officer with a large caliber handgun, hitting the officer’s vehicle multiple times. The officer was not injured and returned fire, striking Osbourn in the lower abdomen.
Osbourn was flown to UAB Hospital, released that evening, taken into custody, and transported to the Talladega County Jail.
Judge Will Hollingsworth set bond at $250,000. If convicted, Osbourn could face 10-99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $60,000.
