SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Residents across the state of Alabama are continuing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, pushing Alabama one step closer to gaining herd immunity.

The state of Alabama has administered 2,039,712 vaccinations.

According to Public Health officials, 72% of the population need to either be exposed to the virus or vaccinated to help reach herd immunity. For Alabama, this means the 3.5 million people need to have immunity, or masks could be the new normal. Alabama is nearly halfway to the herd immunity vaccination goal.

Alabama’s mask mandate expired last week. Masks are encouraged but not required.

Remember to wash your hands, properly wear masks in public, keep your hands away from your face, and continue to practice three-feet social distancing.
