SYLACAUGA, Ala. – On Tuesday night, the Sylacauga Police Department welcomed four new members to its staff.
Josh Morris, Madison Whitehead, Alexandra Lambert, and Kirby Days were introduced before the Sylacauga City Council and others.
“Our city, like every other city in the nation is hurting for law enforcement,” said SPD chief Kelly Johnson. “It is hard to recruit people who want to be police officers in the time we live in. These new staff members are already making a difference in the community, whether it be in the field or in office.”
Days is the first black female officer to join the Sylacauga Police force.
“The first time Kirby came in and tested with us, she missed her run by a few seconds,” said Johnson. “She never gave up. She kept trying until she made her time. She certainly serves as a role model for kids and young women who may want to become a police officer. She is going to make a difference.”
At the next city council meeting, SPD will introduce officer Tanner Cleveland, as well as the members of the K9 unit.
