Southern Smiles of Sylacauga celebrates grand opening Friday

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Southern Smiles of Sylacauga Friday morning, Jan. 21.

Formerly known as the Redmond Family Dentistry, Southern Smiles of Sylacauga decided to rename after expanding its location at 101 S. Douglas Drive and bringing on a new practicing partner.

“Just a few years ago, I couldn’t have imagined this,” said Dr. Rick Redmond. “I was blessed to be able to get an empty lot next to the old office so we were able to [expand].”

Dr. Redmond has been practicing in Sylacauga for many years, and his new partner, Dr. Casey Price, is a Sylacauga native that’s happy to be home.

“I wanted to come home and take care of my people,” said Dr. Price. “[Dr. Redmond] was really wanting to expand his skill set in dentistry and add some different services. He was getting so busy, and he needed somebody to come in and take care of the general dentistry. That’s where I came in.”

With the expansion, Southern Smiles of Sylacauga will now provide services such as cleanings, children’s dentistry, mini dental implants, sedation dentistry, teeth whitening, restorative dentistry, and botox.

The staff numbers have almost tripled as well going from five members up to 14.

“We strive to do a good job,” Dr. Redmond said. “All of the staff live in this area. We try to treat folks like we’d treat our family.”

Redmond stressed that the name change was not due to being bought by a corporation. Redmond admitted that he will “eventually retire,” and the name change will help with potential updates to the practice.

“We are so excited for Dr. Redmond and Dr. Price on the new chapter of this practice,” said Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Strickland, “and the Sylacauga Chamber appreciates their community involvement over the last 50 years.”
