SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement’s Southern Dance and Performing Arts Company is one week away from opening night for its production of “Anastasia,” inspired by the 1997 animated film.
The romantic musical follows Anya, an amnesiac orphan in 1920s Russia, who teams up with two conmen, Dmitry and Vlad, to pose as the long-lost Grand Duchess Anastasia. As they travel to Paris to reunite her with the Dowager Empress, Anya begins to regain her memories, falls in love with Dmitry, and confronts a ruthless Soviet officer named Gleb.
The production is directed by Patrick McDonald, with Janie Giddens serving as music director and Shaylyn Vick as choreographer.
Public performances are scheduled for Feb. 19-21 and 27 at 7:00 p.m., and Feb. 28 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sylacauga High School Auditorium. A mid-day school showing will also take place Wednesday, Feb. 25, likely around 9:00 a.m.
Tickets are $15 and available at sdpac.net, by calling (256) 245-1669, or at the door.
