SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Southern Dance and Performing Arts Company is one week away from opening night of its fall production of “Murder on the Orient Express,” with the curtain set to rise on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the B.B. Comer Memorial High School auditorium.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Public performances are scheduled for Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 16-17. Two school performances, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 15. All performances will be held at the B.B. Comer Memorial High School auditorium.
B.B. Comer alumnus Seth Pettit will star as Hercule Poirot, the iconic Belgian detective at the center of the story. In Ken Ludwig’s stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic mystery, Poirot is portrayed as a brilliant and meticulous detective whose theatrical vanity is matched by a strong moral code.
Set in the winter of 1934, the story follows Poirot after the luxurious Orient Express becomes stranded in a snowdrift. When an American businessman is found stabbed inside a locked train compartment, Poirot must question a train full of intriguing suspects in an effort to identify the killer before another crime occurs.
The production marks the directorial debut of Roxann Parrish.
With elements of romance, tragedy, murder, and revenge, the production promises an evening of mystery and drama as audiences are taken aboard the legendary train to help unravel one of Christie’s most famous whodunits.
Advance tickets are available at sdpac.net or through the SDPAC office.
For the public performances, shows are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 16, with a 1:00 p.m. matinee scheduled for Oct. 17.
