South Talladega County football preview – BB Comer Tigers

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Coach Adam Fossett and the BB Comer Tigers may have more reason to growl than any others at the 2A level in football in 2022.

Many times Coach Fossett has discussed how broken he was, and the program as well, when he arrived on campus. A handful of wins, many coaching changes, and very few players brought some talk of even discontinuing the program. What a turnaround now! Fossett has put together a staff and kids that is a result of being 19-5 the last two seasons. That includes a 10-3 2021 season reaching the state quarterfinals, losing to the eventual state champion by a slim margin. Going from being everyone’s homecoming game to no team wanting to schedule you in three years, is quite a feat.

The cats have a lot of 2 and 3 sport athletes including Devin Harvey, who has big shoes to fill at the quarterback position after graduation to Devontae Carmichael. However, Harvey came in the second round playoff game at Isabella at a critical time and played very well, so he does have experience and is very athletic. Zack Carpenter and Brandon Blankenship both provide senior leadership on the offensive and defensive lines. The trenches will definitely be a plus for the coaching staff.

But one can not talk about talent without mentioning Kamore Harris. Making 1st Team All-State as a sophomore last year, he compiled over 2000 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns for the offense at the running back position. Not to mention, he may be a little better on the defensive side of the ball at his linebacker post.

There is no Lanett or Lafayette in the region this season, but they have been replaced with Isabella and Thorsby. Woodland, Ranburne, Vincent, Coosa Central, and Fayetteville round out the region. Rival games have the felines playing Dadeville, Childersburg, and Saks.

The Tigers open the 2022 campaign with a jamboree against old neighbor Sylacauga on Aug 12. You can follow the Tigers all season long with play-by-play announcer Gregg Wykoff, color analyst Tony White, and sideline reporter Randy Caine on MIX 106.5 with pregame activity starting at 6:30.
