SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga High School Aggie Theater will put on Seussical JR., a musical based on favorites from Dr. Seuss.
Seussical JR. features Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and all your favorite Dr. Seuss characters coming to life onstage. This is a musical extravaganza from Tony-winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and guard an abandoned egg left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
“This is an exciting show that is entertaining for the whole family, said theater teacher Lauren Taunton. “It’s only about an hour long, so it’s perfect for young children and the young at heart! The music and choreography is so fun and the story is both funny and heartwarming. I think our audiences will really enjoy it.”
Tickets are $7 for students ages three and up, and $10 for adults, and can be purchased by calling (256) 369-3157 or at the door. The musical opens May 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sylacauga High School Performing Arts Center. There will be another show on May 5 at 6:30 p.m. and May 6 at 2:00 p.m.
