SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Gov. Ivey’s emergency “stay at home” order has prompted many questions about “essential businesses” which may remain open and whether you visit them is a “necessary” and permitted activity.
In cooperation with the Governor’s office, the Alabama Department of Public Health published Frequently Asked Questions for individuals and businesses.
Simply put, you may leave home only for “essential activities” allowed by the order, which, for example, means you may go out to get “necessary” services or supplies or help other people (or pets) get these necessary services or supplies. The services and supplies must be “necessary” for a person’s (or a pet’s) safety, sanitation, or daily routine.
You may also go to work in some circumstances — and if no regular interaction within six feet of another person is required. In all cases, when it’s reasonable and necessary for you to be out in public, you should keep your distance to minimize risks to yourself or others.

Always ask yourself whether going somewhere, even for “necessary” supplies and services, is a good idea. If you can wait, that’s probably best.
