TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – Two person of interest have been arrested after a Monday shooting on Coleman Bridge Rd. in Childersburg.
On Monday, March 4, at approximately 5:00 p.m., deputies from the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office were notified about a male subject suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1700 block of Coleman Bridge Road. The male victim was airlifted to UAB for medical treatment and remains in critical condition.
Witnesses described a dark colored Dodge truck fleeing the area after the shooting. Investigators were able to identify two individuals from Sylacauga as persons of interest in this case, Klay Alan McGathey, 20, and James Steven Horton, 46.
The following day, at approximately 3:30 P.M., deputies spotted Horton, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Coleman Road. Horton initially stopped before fleeing.
Deputies pursued Horton to U.S. Hwy. 280 before turning onto Crews Lane, Old Sylacauga Hwy., and Flagpole Mountain Rd. with the pursuit ending on Childersburg – Fayetteville Hwy.
Horton was arrested for Reckless Endangerment and Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer as well as being issued multiple traffic citations.
McGathey was apprehended at a residence on Brannen Rd. a short time later and arrested on unrelated charges.
