Currently, only the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer sign checks written. Although the motion has been tabled to the next meeting, it says the chairman of the board of commissioner must sign off on all checks and financial statements from, or associated with, the Sylacauga Housing Authority. The Board of Commissioners now has the power to appoint a committee to review all third party contracts and financial relationships of the housing authority following a Friday vote. The board previously passed a resolution on Aug. 2.Chairman of the board, Patrick Lozito, complained at the meeting about the timeliness of receiving information he inquired to retain from the housing authority. To help him with that, the board passed a motion to hire a part-time assistant to help Lozito with the amount of paperwork.CEO of the SHA Michael Threatt, in attendance although taking FLMA leave, argued the proposed motion saying Lozito should use SHA staff as an extension as opposed to hiring someone exclusively for the position. Lozito made it clear he was not getting the information he was requesting, such as staff salaries and other information, in a timely manner, therefore the board passed the motion enabling the hire of a part-time employee.
