SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The seventh annual Stuff the Studio Food and Toy Drive has come to a close, and both Alabama Childhood Food Solutions (ACFS) and the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE) are well-equipped to deliver Christmas cheer to those in need this holiday season.
The yearly drive benefits AFCS which distributes the food and SAFE which distributes the toys.
“We’ve had people in tears over the generosity and the outreach for their children,” said SAFE Executive Director Margaret Morton. “Not for the adults, but the children, and [it’s] a Christmas that their children have never had. That’s what will grab your heart.”
Over 200 children have received Christmas gifts due to the toy drive, and that number is still growing.
“To see the looks [on the children’s faces], it’s just touching,” Morton expressed.
This year, First Family Services, located in Talladega, has provided SAFE with the opportunity to give to children in the the north part of the county as well.
ACFS founder Jim Jones was also thrilled with the support the surrounding area gave in the form of non-perishable food items this December. He believes that 75 kids and another 25 families will be fed for at least and week, if not longer, due to the donations.
“Hunger does not take a day off,” Jones said. “The hungry will always be amongst us, and we need to pay attention to them. We have to know that people have needs, and we’re helping to meet those needs.”
The seventh annual Stuff the Studio Food and Toy Drive was presented by RadioAlabama’s MIX 106.5, KiX 100.3, and SylacaugaNews.com and sponsored by Sleeping Giant Heating and Cooling, First Bank of Alabama, Chick-fil-A, Heritage South Credit Union, Walmart, and AltaPointe Health.
