Seven local teams advance to 2023 AHSAA basketball tournament regionals


SYLACAUGA, Ala. – After Monday and Tuesday night’s Sub-Regional contests came to a close, seven teams in our area are still standing and will travel to different regional sites starting this Friday, Feb. 17.

Three girls’ teams and four boys’ squads advanced with wins.

Here’s a quick look at the upcoming matchups. Dates, times, and locations are listed below:


1A Northeast
Winterboro vs. Spring Garden – Monday, Feb. 20 at 3:00 p.m. (Pete Mathews Coliseum, Jacksonville State University)

4A Northeast
Talladega vs. New Hope – Saturday, Feb. 18 at 12:00 p.m. (Pete Mathews Coliseum, Jacksonville State University)

5A Central
Sylacauga vs. Marbury – Monday, Feb. 20 at 12:00 p.m. (Bill Harris Arena, Birmingham CrossPlex)


1A Northeast
Winterboro vs. Skyline – Monday, Feb. 20 at 4:30 p.m. (Pete Mathews Coliseum, Jacksonville State University)

2A Central
Central-Coosa vs. Cornerstone School – Friday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. (Bill Harris Arena, Birmingham CrossPlex)

2A Central
Vincent vs. Aliceville – Friday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. (Bill Harris Arena, Birmingham CrossPlex)

*winners of the prior two games play each other in Elite 8; potential for Central-Coosa vs. Vincent matchup*

3A Northwest
Childersburg vs. Lauderdale County – Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m. (Tom Drake Coliseum, Wallace State Community College)
