SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Second-Hand Heaven Thrift and Consignment held its grand opening on Monday, April 10, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony put on by the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce.
The thrift and consignment store moved from its old establishment on Norton Ave. to its new location at 218 Calhoun Ave. next to Mutt Cuts and Shoot First Video & Photography.
“I love the vision and dreams of entrepreneurs,” said Laura Strickland, Executive Director of the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce. “That’s the heartbeat of America and of our community.”
According to Karen Tampling, it’s always been a dream of hers to own a thrift store that accommodates all shoppers.
“Some thrift stores have really high prices,” Tampling said, “and I wanted [mine] to be one of those where anybody can shop here.”
Most of the thrifted items available have price tags for a dollar or less on them, and Tampling also has plans to do plenty of special sales including 25 cent clothes and $5 fill-your-bag days.
Tampling is just beginning on her ideas to give Sylacauga spenders affordable shopping spree opportunities.
“Another thing we [want] to start doing is Customer Appreciation days,” noted Tampling. “We’ll start that the third Thursday of every month. We’ll have refreshments, and we’ll do ten percent off of your purchase.”
Tampling added, “I just want to give back to the community and do God’s work.”
Second-Hand Heaven is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
