SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Southern Dance and Performing Arts Company’s (SDPAC) first show of the 2022-23 season, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, opens one week from today on Thursday, Oct. 20.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a musical based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated film. It showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.

A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic.

“This is certainly one of the strongest casts I have ever had the honor to work with onstage,” says Patrick McDonald, Director of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and the Musical Theatre Instructor for SDPAC. “The incredible talent we have in this community is, in this performance, supplemented by powerful performers who travel from up to 90 minutes away to attend each rehearsal and performance. This combination of strengths and experiences have made it possible for us to reach for new heights in performance excellence. This is, quite simply, an event to mark on your calendar and bring a friend along to experience.”

Performance dates will be Oct. 20-22 and the 28 at 7:00 p.m with a closing matinee performance on Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. School shows for public and private schools, colleges, and homeschool schools will be Oct. 25 and 27.

All performances will be at B.B. Comer High School auditorium.

SDPAC is a program of the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE), a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating a solid and focused experience for each student – on and off stage – providing unique performing arts programs.
