SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A Sylacauga City Schools employee has been arrested and charged with a sex crime.
According to the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office jail log, 40-year-old Brannon Woodrow Cockerham was arrested Thursday with the charge of ‘School Employee Engaging in Act or Sexual Intercourse.’ Sylacauga Police Department is listed as the charging agency.
The following statement was released by Sylacauga City Schools, “On October 27, administrators of Sylacauga City Schools were made aware of the alleged inappropriate conduct of an employee. Conduct of this nature is not condoned, and the employee was removed from campus and placed on administrative leave. While the Sylacauga Police Department investigates this situation, an internal investigation by Sylacauga City Schools also is underway. Because of these active investigations, we are unable to make further comments.”
In addition to being a career prep teacher at SHS, Cockerham is an assistant football and basketball coach for the system.
