Saturday afternoon wreck shut down Hwy 231, causes casualties

COOSA COUNTY, Ala. – The Coosa County Sheriff’s Department reported a major traffic accident on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, that shut down Hwy 231 near Coosa County Rd. 10 near Concord Baptist Church.

The wreck shut down the intersection for several hours as law enforcement and other rescue vehicles dealt with the accident, which caused multiple injuries. According to a family member of someone involved, there was at least one fatality.

Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) are investigating the crash and are expected to release more information.

In the meantime, the Coosa County Sheriff’s Department issued the following statement concerning travel caution with more winter precipitation expected soon.

“Please be weather aware and limit your travel over the next few days. Road conditions will not be good, so if you have to travel, drive slowly and use extreme caution!”
