SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement has received a 2017 GRO1000 Grassroots Grant from The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation.

The GRO1000 Grassroots Grants are part of foundation’s efforts to support more than 1,000 community gardens and greenspaces, particularly in areas of need, leading up to The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company’s 150th anniversary in 2018.

Of the more than 100 non-profit organizations to receive grants this year, only two are in Alabama.

To date, according to the company, GRO1000 projects have resulted in more than 10.7 million square feet of revitalized greenspace and more than 266,000 pounds of annually-donated produce, with more than 65,000 youth given hands-on experiences with nature. SAFE will use the $1,500 grant for the Sylacauga GROWS Community Garden.

Ohio-based Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (NYSE: SMG) is the world’s largest marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products.

The Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement, celebrating its 20th anniversary this October, is a non-profit community-based organization providing a variety of programs and services including transportation, adult education, after school, healthy marriage and relationships, family literacy, fatherhood, health and wellness, home instruction for pre-schoolers, work counseling and job mentoring, industry training, medication assistance, case management, substance abuse, community gardening, and parenting education and support.
