SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement has received a very generous donation.
Sammy Dobson, Chairman of the Building and Construction Trade Group, recently made a donation on behalf of the organization to SAFE Family Services Center to support families and children who require emergency needs related to homelessness, domestic violence and poverty.
“SAFE is grateful for the support of organizations like the Building and Construction Trade Group who recognize individuals and families are hurting, and need additional support from time to time, especially now during these extraordinary times” says Executive Director, Margaret Morton. “SAFE’s mission is to strengthen and support both families and the community. That cannot be done unless we all work together.”

The Building and Construction Trade Group is a nonprofit corporation that was formed in 1967 to provide community services. The BCTG, constructed and operated a 10 story apartment building in 5 points South that furnished affordable housing to senior citizens for over 35 years. The Corporation got out of the apartment business in 2005 and has since redirected their community services in order to diversify their impact. The Birmingham Building and Construction Trades Council, an organization that represents the unionized construction trades in Central Alabama, sponsored the corporation in order to provide an outlet for their members to give something back to the local communities, where their members live and work. The unionized trades have been instrumental in helping build most of the major industrial plants and many of the major buildings in the Birmingham area. They also operate and fund apprenticeship programs to involve local workers in the construction industry. The group has contributed over $290,000 to local charities and community groups over the last 14 years, including volunteer fire departments, youth programs, handicapped athletes and athletics, educational groups, libraries, human societies, and on-profit groups in the seven county area surrounding Birmingham. Board members include: Sammy Dobson – Chairman of the Board, Roland Collins, John Eaves, Larry Gardner, and Jerome Peterson.
