Sylacauga Rotary Club marks community dedication with new plaque at Central Park

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Rotary Club commemorated its commitment to community enhancement with the installation of a new plaque at Central Park on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 15.

The club, known for its philanthropic efforts, funded the park’s entrance and fencing, marking a milestone in its ongoing revitalization project that started eight years ago in 2015.

This endeavor is more than a facelift for Central Park, however.

It’s a tribute to Sylacauga’s heritage and its aspirations.

The upgrades pay homage to the town’s history as an Avondale Mills hub and textile industry center while embracing its present and future ties to the marble industry through a nod to the local quarry.

Despite these achievements, the Rotary Club’s work is far from over. The organization is actively accepting donations to complete the remaining fencing around the park. Generous grants, individual donors, and community contributions have already raised over $20,000.

The Rotary Club’s contributions extend beyond fencing; it previously financed park columns and electrical infrastructure.

“We are a club that desires to do things that need to be done for the community,” said Sylacauga Rotary Club member Paul Golden. “This [project] right here is amazing. It’s what we as a Rotary Club want to be doing.”
