SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Families in the Sylacauga and Talladega County area will have the chance next Monday, Oct. 20 to preview Alabama’s newest specialty public high school – and be among the first to apply.
Representatives from the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences will host an informational meeting, A Future of Healthcare, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the private dining room at the Hickory Street Café inside Coosa Valley Medical Center.
The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences, which broke ground this week in Demopolis, is already accepting applications for its first class, which will enroll next August. The school will be Alabama’s fourth residential, state-funded high school — and the first focused exclusively on healthcare sciences. Its mission is to help address the state’s growing healthcare workforce shortage, particularly in rural areas.
During the meeting, parents, students, and community members can learn about the school’s curriculum, admissions process, and campus life. The presentation will include remarks from the school’s President, Dr. Jimmy Martin, and other school leaders.
“This school is a golden opportunity for Alabama,” Dr. Martin said. “We’re looking for students who want to be pioneers — young people ready to challenge themselves academically, grow in character, and prepare for careers that will change healthcare in Alabama and beyond.”
The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences team will continue its statewide outreach next week with meetings in Demopolis on Wednesday, Oct. 22, and Huntsville on Thursday, Oct. 23.
