TALLADEGA, Ala. – First elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1998, Rep. Steve Hurst is asking voters in District 35 to give him one final four-year term before stepping away from public service.

Hurst’s political career began with an appointment to the Talladega County Commission. He later returned to electoral politics by running for a seat in the Alabama Legislature.

During a recent legislative forum, Hurst said his primary focus has been working behind the scenes to amend existing bills rather than sponsoring new legislation under his own name.

Hurst said he still has a passion for helping people and does not expect that to change after his time in the Legislature ends.

“That’s who I am, and I’ll keep being of service even beyond my time in public office,” Hurst said.
