SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The NBA and college basketball seasons are under way. For Sylacauga parents, it’s time for you to get your future hoop’s stars signed up and ready for basketball season.
Registration for youth basketball, ages 6-12, through the Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Department is open now until Dec. 16. The cost of registration is $40, which that includes the jersey top for each child’s uniform. Parents can register children Monday thru Thursday until 8:00 p.m. and on Fridays until 5:30 p.m.
Players will be divided into three different leagues. Ages 6-8 will play co-ed basketball, while boys and girls ages 9-12 will be separated into their own leagues.
Children 6-8 and boys 9-12 will play their games at the J. Craig Community Center. Girls 9-12 will play at the Verlie Collins Center.
Tryouts for children ages 6-8 and boys 9-12 will be held on Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at the J. Craig. Community Center. Tryouts for girls 9-10 will be held on the same date and time at the Verlie Collins Center.
“We hope everyone will come out when we start play in January and watch their children learn and play the sport,” said Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Director Jim Armstrong. “I think this gives our youth a chance to play, but also to learn the rules of the game and also learn sportsmanship.”
Parents who are registering their children for the first time, will need either a copy of the child’s birth certificate or a certified letter from the school the child attends.
The age control date is set on or before September 1.
