SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Talladega Ranger District is planning to burn 525 acres today, eight miles east of Sylacauga.
Forest Service Roads 686, 687 and County Road 1 (Bull Gaps Road) form portions of this burn’s boundary and should be traveled with caution. During today’s burn, the public will notice Forest Service fire crews and equipment. Smoke may also be visbile in County Roads 4 and 7 and Highways 21 and 148.
The wind is expected to be out of the south and carry the smoke to the north towards the Sycamore community. As the temperatures cool later today, the smoke may begin to settle down Little Hatchet Creek towards County Road 4 and Midway. Some settling may also occur around the general area of the burn near Hollins Hunt Camp. Signs will be posted if needed. If encountering smoke on roadways, please slow down, turn on your low-beam lights and use caution when encountering prescribed burning operations and smoke.
