SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A new disc golf course opened last Friday, Feb. 9, at Lake Howard in Sylacauga, challenging enthusiasts of the sport with one of the premier experiences available.
The grand opening of the 18-hole championship course, along with a five-hole beginner loop, took place at 12:00 p.m.
The course, open Tuesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., offers varying levels of difficulty with two pads per hole catering to both intermediate and advanced players.
“This is our new disc golf course,” said Steve Masters, Sylacauga Parks and Recreation Director. “It’s absolutely beautiful and everything that was done was done locally by local companies, such as Mintz Machine doing all of the mulching for us and a local guy designed the course, so it’s really been a community effort.”
The course’s designer, James Hopkins, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to create the course, emphasizing its potential to benefit the community.
“I feel like this is an incredible opportunity for Sylacauga to really enjoy the sport of,” said Hopkins.
Masters further thanked the individuals involved in the course’s development and encouraged community members to begin exploring and enjoying the new facility. The project marks a significant addition to the recreational offerings in Sylacauga and the surrounding area.
