UPDATE: According to Debbie Fetterly, USPS Public Information Officer for Alabama and Mississippi, the cause of the structural degradation is a termite infestation. A treatment of the facility is scheduled for this Thursday, March 24.
TALLADEGA COUNTY, Ala. – The United States Postal Service (USPS) has closed its doors on Main St. at the Sycamore post office for the time being due to the building’s structural issues.
The decision was made last Friday, March 18.
USPS suggests that all customers that normally conduct business at the Sycamore location instead use the post office in Sylacauga on S. Broadway Ave. Those with proper identification may also pick up mail in Sylacauga.
The following statement was provided by the USPS:
“The safety and well-being of customers and employees is of the utmost importance to the Postal Service. Postal officials are working to resolve this safety issue and will be providing an update to our customers once a thorough assessment has been completed. The Postal Service appreciates its customers and apologizes for any inconvenience.”
The Sylacauga post office’s operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. On Sundays, the post office is closed.
Customers may call 1-800-ASK-USPS or to go the Postal Service’s website, to get the locations of additional nearby Post Offices and approved postal retail service providers.
