TALLADEGA, Ala. —A police officer was airlifted to UAB Hospital after being shot early Wednesday morning while responding to a domestic dispute.
The shooting happened at the Walmart in Talladega just before 4:30 a.m.
Officers said they were originally responding to reports of an abduction. Once they arrived on the scene, a driver inside a car opened fire, hitting one of the officers. Officers returned gunfire.
The driver has been pronounced dead. Another person inside the vehicle was also confirmed dead.
Authorities say a second officer was injured in the incident, but not by gunfire.
We’re told the officer who was shot was airlifted to UAB Hospital and is expected to survive.
