SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Police were dispatched to the scene of a car accident Monday at 6:08 p.m.
When police arrived, they found a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee sitting idol inside of the former Sun Nails and Spa building on Broadway beside Panda Inn.
SPD Chief Kelley Johnson told SylacaugaNews.com the driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old female, was attempting to back out of a parking spot in the shopping center when things took a dangerous turn. She told police her foot slipped off the brake and landed on the accelerator, propelling her vehicle through the glass doors of the unoccupied building.
“The car ran through the front of the building and didn’t stop until it hit the back wall,” Johnson explained. “Luckily no one was injured in the crash.”
Tuesday morning evidence of the crash was still visible from the night before. Shards of glass were spread across the parking lot and sidewalk, but maintenance crews were on the scene cleaning up the wreckage.
