SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga Parks and Recreation will be moving the city’s volleyball court across town.
The single court, currently located in Beth Yates Park across from First Presbyterian, will move to Noble Park in the coming weeks.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Jim Armstrong, Noble Park will be a much better environment to host volleyball. “We have more space in Noble Park. It is very open,” said Armstrong. ‘That part of [Noble] Park is not being utilized, and it is a good open place to play.”
Armstrong also mentioned a problem with the trees in Beth Yates Park. He said the tress are continuously dropping limbs and sweet gum balls into the sand volleyball courts, and that problem should be eliminated with the move.
The new location will has a pavilion and is equipped with plenty of parking. The move will also allow for an additional court, enabling multiple games to be played at once.
Solar lighting will also be installed at the new courts.
The project should be completed soon. Armstrong said he is awaiting new nets and the remainder of the sand to be delivered.
