Over 120,000 pounds of ground beef recalled due to potential E. coli contamination

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga’s Walmart is included on a list of retail stores which sell ground beef that has been recalled.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced last week that Lakeside Refrigerated Services has recalled approximately 120,872 pounds of ground beef.

The decision was made after routine inspection discovered STEC-O103, also known as E. coli, was found in the ground beef product.

Certain ground beef produced from Feb. 1 until April 8 by Lakeside is part of the recall. The contaminated product can be identified by the establishment number “EST. 46841” on the USDA’s mark of inspection.

Lakeside distributes nationwide, and Sylacauga’s Walmart is one of the stores the beef is sold at.

Lakeside’s ground beef products were also recalled in June 2020. On that occasion, almost 43,000 pounds were recalled.

The FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
