Off-duty police officer fatally shot in Sylacauga; investigation underway

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Jeremy Dewayne Wilson, a 40-year-old off-duty police officer, succumbed to a gunshot wound following a domestic violence altercation in Sylacauga.

The Sylacauga Police Department (SPD) responded to a call on Wednesday, March 6, finding Wilson suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body at 1599 Commerce Dr.

He was treated on-site by members of the Sylacauga Ambulance Service and later pronounced dead at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

Wilson, formerly a Deputy Sheriff with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department, was employed by the City of Ohatchee Police Department at the time of the incident.

An investigation is ongoing, with all involved parties cooperating. No arrests have been made yet.
