OAK GROVE, Ala. – The Oak Grove Town Council voted on Tuesday night, Feb. 10 to approve a mural to their Town Hall building. They voted to allocate up to $11,000 for Sean Day to paint a mural on the west wall of the building, facing Hwy 280.

In other Old Business, Resolution #647, which would approve the donation of Hannah Ln. to the Town and accept the transfer of property from the Spring Creek Homeowner’s Association, was tabled until the March meeting.

Adam Bassett was nominated to fill a vacancy on the Board of Zoning and Adjustments. If Bassett accepts the nomination, he will be appointed next month.

In New Business, the Council approved Resolution #648, which declares a 2012 LAWR utility trailer as surplus – no longer needed by the Town – and authorized its disposal.

Approval was authorized to pay $3,548 to Wesson Companies to install a control panel and outdoor keypads for both the Senior Center and Town Hall doors.

The Council authorized expenses for Mayor Tony White and Council members David Harris and Mary Carter to attend the 2026 Alabama League of Municipalities Convention in Montgomery in April 2026. The amount approved – $1,650 per person – includes registration, lodging, per diem, and transportation for the event. White was designated as the Voting Delegate and Carter as the Alternate during the event.

A discussion was held concerning the purchase of a truck and dump trailer to handle bulk item roadside pickup for residents once the current contract expires later this summer. The truck, a 2026 Ford F550 from Stivers Ford per the state bid list, would come fully equipped for $71,125. Action on the matter was tabled until March to allow for a more precise cost for the dump trailer with a grapple loader. The cost estimate was near $20,000.

A pair of new members were approved by the Council to join the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department – Cole Grantham and Amber Baird.

During the Mayor’s Report, Tony White said, “We’ve been looking at road assessments, and we found some to be in pretty bad shape.” White added that a plan for paving will be coming soon.

White also noted that a state law regulating volunteer fire departments in Talladega County requires annual audits and monthly reports. While the Oak Grove VFD has promptly submitted their monthly reports, White said the annual audits are behind, adding that he has talked with CPA Mike Richardson about catching up and keeping current the annual audits at a rate of $300 per audit.

The Council heard a proposal from Wanda Ray, a part-time worker for the Oak Grove Senior Center, to expand her role from twice monthly to twice weekly to help handle required paperwork. The Council will look at addressing the changes necessary for the position’s job description and address it as part of next month’s regular meeting agenda.
