SYLACAUGA, Ala. – A North Carolina man has been arrested and charged with Arson First Degree.
Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson told SylacaugaNews.com 28-year-old Donald Christopher Crawford broke into Knollwood Presbyterian Church Monday night and slept in the basement as he was traveling down to Florida.
The church was occupied by a group of parishioners at the time of the fire. Everyone evacuated the building and no injuries were reported. Sylacauga Fire Department responded to the church and extinguished the fire.
As he left, Crawford allegedly set fire to the basement of the church.
Crawford was arrested at Hardees on Tuesday and charged with First Degree Arson.
Crawford, listed by jail records as a homeless man, is in the Talladega Co. Jail. Bond has not yet been set.
