SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Sylacauga High School (SHS) has appointed Ms. Nitha Storey as the school’s new Jobs for Alabama’s Graduates (JAG) Specialist.
Storey, a long-time presence at SHS, will now help prepare students for successful careers, ensure they graduate college, and establish students as career ready.
The school system received a JAG Continuation Grant from the Alabama Department of Education for the 2024-25 school year. The JAG program, a nationally-recognized initiative, is designed to help students secure employment, enroll in higher education, or enlist in service by graduation.
“I’m honored to launch the JAG Program at Sylacauga High School and help my students achieve academic and career success,” Storey said.
The JAG program at SHS will concentrate on three core areas: career development, leadership development, and work-based learning. Students will receive personalized career counseling, leadership training, and hands-on experience through internships and job shadowing.
Storey’s support will extend beyond graduation, as she plans to continue assisting graduates in their transition to the workforce.
The JAG program, which began in Alabama in 1996, has positively impacted more than 11,000 students across the state.
“The JAG program is one more layer of support we can give our students to ensure all students graduate on-time and ready for the future workforce. For several years, Ms. Storey has worked with our at-risk students in assisting with credit recovery. I look forward to seeing what this group of JAG students will accomplish under her guidance and direction,” said Sylacauga City Schools Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller.
