CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – As Doves Landing Event Center hosted the March Coffee from the Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, the new owners of the former Bella Luna Event Center, Jovon Boyd and Shane Griffin, were introduced along with an impressive list of other local business interests.
“We aren’t new,” explained Griffin. “We’ve been operating a technology business in Childersburg for seven years, Lighthouse Integrated Tech Systems, and this acquisition will allow us to expand that and other business operations.”
Inside Doves Landing is a new podcast studio for both audio and video productions.
“Yes, the studio is available for others who want to start and expand their own podcasts,” said Boyd.
The building will also be home for a new commissary business that’s under construction. Boyd said, “We needed one for our own ‘Fig & Olive’ food truck operation, serving healthy drinks, smoothies, rolled ice cream, and more. We understand how difficult it can be for food truck operators to locate an affordable and required commissary, and ours will accommodate more than just our needs.”
Doves Landing Event Center will also host a series of music and dance lessons, and don’t forget that Boyd and Griffin are also operating the adjacent Bella Luna Fitness and Tanning Center.
Chamber President/CEO John Mark Freeman announced several April events – the April 7 Job Fair, as well as the April Chamber Coffee hosted by Fayetteville High School.
Gaye Powell, representing several organizations, reminded the crowd of the upcoming Ben Nelson 5K from Childersburg Kiwanis Club and the annual Grits Festival that is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at Kymulga Grist Mill Park.
“We’re going all out this year out of necessity,” Powell remarked. “The Covered Bridge, the park store, and several other features have about $40,000 worth of structural issues that we have to address. That makes this year’s event an important one for the Historic Commission, the Park, and the public.
Coming up on Monday, March 30 at the Limbaugh Community Center will be the annual Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union Membership meeting. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 7:00 p.m.
Councilman Wesley Allen reported that the two current new housing developments are growing every day, with more to come.
“The City of Childersburg is hosting Alabama’s stop for the America250 Tour,” Allen pointed out as well.
That event is a free-to-the-public, two-day patriotic celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary, which will be held in Childersburg on April 11-12 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days.
Musical acts performing include The Hoppers, The Griffiths, Master’s Voice, other local local talent, and Easton Corbin as the headliner. The event activities will take place at John Cox Stadium along with First Baptist Church’s parking lot, adjacent to City Hall in downtown Childersburg.
