SHARE NOW

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City School (SCS) system has announced a new set of guidelines that will take effect immediately for all home athletic events for the 2023-24 school year.

The following policy guidelines are now in place for all indoor and outdoor sports:

  • In an effort to cultivate a family-safe environment, every person under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 19 or be a Sylacauga High School student. The adult is responsible for the person under 16 throughout the entire athletic event. Parents may no longer drop off their children under 16 who are not Sylacauga High School students.
  • All individuals not accompanied by an adult aged 19 or older must have a valid photo ID indicating they are 16 years or older or have a Sylacauga High School-issued ID.
  • A clear bag policy will be enforced for all spectators attending a stadium/arena/gymnasium athletic contest.
  • Spectators at all campuses and events should not stand along the fence or in front of the bleachers, and should remain seated in the bleachers unless going to/from the concession stand or the restrooms.
  • Do not enter the field of play for any sporting events. This includes pregame, during game, and/or post game without the consent of an authorized administrator or athletic director.
  • All attendees are expected to follow all rules of the facilities where the athletic event is being held. Those who fail to follow the rules of the facility may be escorted off the premises.
  • Spectators are asked to remain seated in the stands during the game. Loitering or gathering in aisles, concourses, ramps, lobbies, entrances, or exits is strictly prohibited.
  • Failure to comply with policies or guidelines will result in immediate dismissal.
  • Law enforcement may be present at athletic events and will act at their discretion if they observe any misconduct during the events.
  • The enhanced safety and security measure will go into effect immediately. The enhancements are being implemented to ensure the safety of all students and spectators. Fans heading to SCS athletic events should arrive early to account for additional time needed to enter the games.

“These guidelines are intended to provide a safe and friendly environment for all fans and guests,” stated SCS athletic director Chad Wilkinson. “Regardless if it is an indoor or outdoor sport, we want everyone to enjoy the event and support their team. Sports have a way of bonding people together with school pride. We ask for everyone’s cooperation in following these guidelines to make sure fans have a great experience.”

SCS Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller recently discussed the new guidelines with Michael Brannon on the new segment Midweek Minute with the Superintendent, which you can listen to below:
