SYLACAUGA, Ala. – Nemak Alabama today announced plans to add up to 100 new positions in its Sylacauga facility by 2020. Most, including what the company classifies as a combination of salaried, direct, and indirect labor, will be filled by 2018.
Supporting production beginning in 2018-2019, Nemak Alabama will convert a former lost foam operation as it enters the structural components business with development of “innovative technological solutions for automotive lightweighting,” according to the company. Last summer, Nemak Alabama laid off some 200 employees due to changes in customer requirements.
Thanking mayor Jim Heigl, Alabama Industrial Development and Training, the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce, and the Talladega County Economic Development Authority, the company’s announcement noted that it “is excited about this new opportunity and looks forward to future growth and success in Sylacauga.”
Nemak Alabama’s 450-plus employees are among Nemak’s 21,000 at 36 facilities worldwide, with projected 2017 revenues of $4.4 billion. Nemak is the world’s largest independent producer of high tech aluminum auto products, boasting that 60% of all new vehicles in North America and 25% of all new vehicles globally include a Nemak component.
