BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The National Weather Service has issued a Hard Freeze Watch for much of central Alabama from late Sunday night through Wednesday morning. All area counties and cities are included.
A Hard Freeze Watch means very cold temperatures are forecast and could be hazardous to your property, pets, and plants. Temperatures will range from 10-20 degrees each morning, and prolonged sub-freezing temperatures could result in exposed water pipes freezing and possibly bursting.
A separate Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Sunday for Walker, Jefferson, and Shelby Counties. Light freezing rain and ice pellets will
result in slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads, and bridges. Ice accumulations less than a tenth of an inch are expected. Be prepared for slippery roads and travel difficulties in those areas, and use caution while driving.
