SYLACAUGA, Ala. – It’s that time of year. NASCAR is returning to its biggest, baddest, and loudest track this weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Talladega Superspeedway announced it will only be allowing a limited number of fans at its spring race.
Talladega is a special place for drivers and fans alike. Many fans have their first NASCAR experience at Talladega, while some drivers claim their first win.
There are a few drivers fans should keep their eye on when they drop the green flag this weekend. Two-time Daytona 500 champion and winner of the 2020 YellaWood 500 at Talladega, Denny Hamlin will be starting from the pole for the GEICO 500 this Sunday. Fans should also keep an eye on Hamlin’s fellow Joe Gibbs Racing teammate and former NASCAR Cup series champion Kyle Busch, as he seeks his first win at Talladega Superspeedway, which is one of the few tracks where he has never been to Victory Lane in his illustrious career.
NASCAR fan favorite and winner of the 2019 GEICO 500, Chase Elliott is seeking to claim his first win of the 2021 season.
Team Penske has had much success at Talladega in recent years. All three drivers have won at least one race at Talladega, with the most recent being Ryan Blaney in the 2020 GEICO 500.
