SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Miss Sylacauga Competition, sponsored by the Sylacauga Parks and Recreation, is hosting its first-ever Scholarship Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 24.

The tournament will take place at Lay Lake, launching from Beeswax Landing. The proceeds generated from this event will be utilized to fund scholarships for the aspiring young women competing in Miss Sylacauga and Miss Sylacauga’s Outstanding Teen.

Anglers can now pre-register for the tournament on MissSylacauga.com, or they can also register on the day of the event.

The tournament is limited to 50 boaters and offers an assured payout of $1,500 for the first-place winner, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. The entry fee is $100 per boat, with a maximum of two people per boat.

Additionally, participants can enter the Big Fish category for an extra $20. The tournament will commence at safe daylight, and the weigh-in will start at 2:00 p.m. Boat numbers will be assigned based on the order of registration.

The program is actively seeking sponsors for the event and welcomes vendors to participate on the day of the tournament.

Since its establishment in 1936, the Miss Sylacauga Competition has served as the longest-running preliminary event leading to Miss Alabama and the Miss America Competition. The primary objective of this program is to provide scholarships for the talented young women of Sylacauga.

Participants in the competition gain valuable life skills, such as public speaking, interview techniques, a passion for philanthropy, self-assurance, and proficiency in fine arts.
