SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga City Council met on Tuesday, Feb. 4, following a work session which began at 5:00 p.m.
To begin the meeting, a presentation was conducted by the Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement (SAFE) Executive Director Margaret Morton regarding the city council’s involvement and support with the East Alabama Rural Innovation and Training Hub (EARTH).
Representatives of SAFE and EARTH were on-hand to gift commemorative marble sculptures created by Craigger Browne to Mayor Jim Heigl, City Attorney Win Livingston, and all Sylacauga City Council members.
The council approved amending the previous budget increase for the Animal Shelter’s Building Repair and Maintenance General Ledger line item (010-540- 45001-000) from $3,550.54 to $4,863.36. (Funding provided from the General Fund)
They also approved funding a budget increase of $15,138 for the Animal Shelter’s Temporary Pay General Ledger line item (010-540-41091-000). (Funding provided from the General Fund)
Approval was granted for an extension of Accounting Consultant employment for administrative and financial-related tasks at a rate of $50 per hour until June 30, 2025. (Previously approved until March 31; funding from the unused salaries portion of the Accounting Fund)
The council confirmed the required approval from Win Livingston before issuing purchase orders for legal services, with the city attorney advising the council on the need for such services.
The city council approved the Fiscal Year 2024 Alabama Annual Report as well as the Fiscal Year 2025 Accounts Payable invoices, totaling $977,022.27, and the January 2025 payroll, totaling $847,962.86.
The next Sylacauga City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20, at 6:00 p.m.
