MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the last 17 years Marble City Pharmacy has served Sylacauga at the very same spot it occupies on W. Fort Williams St. Last week, the pharmacy was awarded top small business in the state in the category of 1-10 employees from the Business Council of Alabama and the Chamber of Commerce Association at The Partnership’s 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting and Alabama Small Business Awards.
Today, brothers Jacob and Jared Johnson co-own the store. But 18 years ago, the foundation was laid for the two brothers to have the success they continue to achieve today.
Jared and Jacob’s father, Danny Johnson, opened the pharmacy with James Hobson. Two years after opening, the co-owners hired Jacob as a pharmacist. Three years later, Hobson passed away, leaving Jacob with an opportunity to buy Hobson’s stock in the business.
Four years after becoming business partner’s with his son, Danny retired leaving an opening for Jared to move into the family owned and operated pharmacy as co-owner with his brother.
