CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – An adult man was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital after he was shot during an altercation late Wednesday, Nov. 12 at a Mapco gas station on Hwy 280, according to the Childersburg Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the store at about 10:41 p.m. Wednesday night and found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Childersburg Fire and Rescue provided treatment at the scene before the victim was flown to UAB Hospital, where his injury was determined to be non-life-threatening.
Police said two men who did not know each other became involved in a verbal dispute in the parking lot. During the argument, one man pulled a handgun and fired multiple rounds, striking the other before fleeing.
Investigators later identified the suspected shooter as 20-year old Quintez Lewis of Childersburg. Lewis was located in the Sadie Lee Housing Community and arrested. He has been charged with possession of an altered firearm and is being held in the Talladega County Jail without bond.
