AUBURN, Ala. – The last few days have not been ideal on the Plains in Auburn.
Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana the Auburn Tigers essentially eliminated themselves from the College Football Playoff race with a loss to the Louisiana State University Tigers after leading 20-0.
On Tuesday at his weekly press conference, Head Coach Gus Malzahn announced one of his biggest and best play-makers, receiver Kyle Davis, has been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules. “Any time as a head coach a player has to be dismissed, that hurts. Every situation is different. We have a lot of great kids on this team and any time that happens it’s another opportunity for someone else. That’s just how I look at it,” Malzahn said.
Missing two games already in the 2017 season, Davis accounted for 210 yards receiving on seven catches. Coming out of high school in the state of Georgia, Davis was one of the highest rated receivers in his recruiting class. At six feet-two inches tall and over 215 pounds, Davis had the size and speed to be one of the top receivers in college football.
Davis is the third Auburn player to start the season with the team, but leave mid-season. Quarterback Sean White was also dismissed, and defensive lineman Byron Cowart left the program under his own discretion.
The Tigers will go on the road to Arkansas this weekend.
