SYLACAUGA, AL – “Growing Together – Partners in Hope” will be providing new back-to-school shoes for foster children in Talladega & Coosa Counties. That’s approximately 92 pairs of shoes!
To that end, the organization is teaming up with community partners in a silent auction on June 27th. In the meantime, donations of cash, gift cards, and other items of value are being accepted for the auction. The goal is $7,000 to purchase gift cards for distribution to foster families by their social workers, specifically for back-to-school shoes, primarily sneakers.
So, what is the “Growing Together – Partners in Hope” organization? It’s a non-profit dedicated to support the foster care programs in the region.
“My family experienced foster care first hand,” explained Becky Bolton, “and we saw the needs for the foster children, the needs for foster parents. So, five of us created Growing Together to help meet those needs.”
Growing Together is a resource center for foster families that has dedicated space inside Front Porch Realty in Sylacauga. In talking with foster families, they identified several specific needs shared by most foster families. One of those, back-to-school shoes for foster children is the subject of the current fund-raising effort, the silent auction on Thursday, June 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It will happen inside Front Porch Realty, along with Facebook-Live posts.
Growing Together operates year-round, supplying mostly new placement essentials – things like diapers & wipes, blankets, pajamas, socks, and underwear. Sometimes, it’s a simple stuffed animal to love!
“We rely on community partners and their generous donations, support, and prayers,” said Bolton. We work with social workers, so they can have the most needed items on hand, that they can distribute to foster families whenever they are needed.”
