SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Christmas season is all about creating memories and spending time with friends and family. But you do not have to wait until Christmas Day to make those memories.
Every year, the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham helps people get into the Christmas spirit by showing classic Christmas movies.
This year will is no different. Until Dec. 22, the Alabama Theatre will show classic Christmas movies such as Christmas Vacation, Elf, Home Alone, and Miracle on 34th Street.
According to Brant Beene, executive Director of Birmingham Landmarks, the non-profit that owns the Alabama Theatres, 25,000 people will visit the theatre during the holiday season. Many of those families come back every year.
“Families love coming to the Alabama because it evokes such good emotions and childhood Christmas memories,” said Beene. “The Alabama Theatre does this because it allows people a few hours of pure enjoyment and the opportunity to revisit history. So many families come back every year and it’s become a tradition for them.”
Tickets are currently on sale online for $8, but Beene told SylacaugaNews.com moviegoers should get tickets early because the classics sell out quickly.

For those who are not willing to make the drive to Birmingham to watch Christmas movies, the Twilight 280 Drive-In theater in Harpersville is also offering a similar experience.
Christmas Vacation, Elf, A Christmas Story, and The Polar Express will be featured at the drive-in.
“We think people should come out and enjoy a movie at the Twilight Drive In because it is something fun and different,” said owner Stacy Padgett. “For some it is nostalgic of days gone by and they enjoy reliving that memory. It is a great place for families to just spend time together enjoying a classic Christmas Movie.”
