Lady Aggies roll Horseshoe Bend in Tuesday night contest

NEW SITE, Ala. – The Sylacauga Lady Aggies (8-3-1) defeated the Horseshoe Bend Lady Generals 8-2 Tuesday.

The Aggies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Ivey Waller hit a RBI double into center field.

Moving to the bottom of the fourth Horseshoe Bend put  together three consecutive hits and score one run to tie the game up at one a piece.

In the fifth inning, Waller was walked and Aurielle Turner singled. On the next pitch to Kaylei Horn, pinch-runner Zoe McLaughlin and Turner advanced to third and second on a double steal. Sylacauga regained the lead on the following pitch when Horn hit a Sac-fly into right field scoring McLaughlin.

The Aggies scored three more in the top of the sixth with a pair of RBI singles from Raegan Wills and Lani Varner, giving the ladies a 5-1 lead.The Lady Generals added one more run on the bottom half of the inning making it a three run game going in to the seventh.

Turner and Hurst led off the seventh with back-to-back bunt singles and later scored off of great plate appearances by Maddi Ingram and Kaleigh Smith. The eighth and final run scored when Neeley-Scott Murphree singled into right field pushing Ingram across the plate.

Pitcher Lani Varner and the Aggie defense gave up nothing to the Lady Generals in their final at bat. Varner, who pitched the complete game, struck out four batters while only giving up five hits and no walks.  Aurielle Turner led the offense with two of the Aggie’s eight hits.

The Sylacauga Lady Aggies will travel this Saturday, March 30, to play in a tournament co-hosted by Paul W. Bryant and Holt High Schools at Gordon-Davis Park in Cottondale.  The first game for the Aggies will start at 10:00 a.m. when they take on Falkville followed by an 11:30 a.m. contest with Shelby County.  Elimination games are TBD.
