TALLADEGA SPRINGS, Ala. – The ladies of the Talladega Springs Senior Center are passionate about their regular gathering place, and they’re equality passionate about a delicious monthly community event that raises funds to support their passions – a huge breakfast spread, featuring all your Southern country cooking favorites.

Every second Saturday of each month, the doors of the Talladega Springs Senior Center open from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. to the public for an absolute feast of breakfast favorites. It’s a fund-raising event whose history started with late State Representative Ron Johnson.

“Ron not only loved to cook for the community, he was a strong supporter of our Senior Center, “ explained Glenda Kelley, who has served as the Center Manager for the past 18 years. ”Ron’s gone now, but his spirit lives on in a wonderfully delicious way to keep our Center going strong. Others have stepped up along the way, including Talladega County Commissioner Malley Limbaugh.”

The building in Talladega Springs is more than just a place to gather for Zumba classes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings; it’s more than puzzles and board games on Tuesdays and Thursdays; it’s where friends gather for fellowship, enjoying lunch together and making sure that more than 20 shut-ins are fed through a homebound feeding program. It’s a place to share important moments together as an extended family.

“Those moments make it a joy to come here every day,” explained Kelley. “And sharing that experience over breakfast every second Saturday is their way of giving back, as well as making sure we have the financial support necessary to keep the doors open going forward.”

Mark your calendars, make plans to head for the Talladega Springs Senior Center, and bring a hearty appetite and lots of friends for one the best Southern-style, country cooking experiences that exists. You won’t be disappointed.

By the way, getting back in line for seconds isn’t just welcomed, it’s pretty much expected!
