Kiwanis Club to hold 63rd Annual Sam H. Wright Pancake Day

SYLACAUGA, Ala. – “Serving the children of the world.” This is the Kiwanis Club motto, and that is just what the Sylacauga Chapter has done since its inception 63 years ago.

Over the years, Kiwanis has helped and served local children in many different ways. The Club has worked with the Care House, Boys Club, and sponsored children’s reading programs through local libraries.”We are here to serve the children in the community,” said Sylacauga Kiwanis Club President Matt Austin. “Basically anything that helps them is something we want to be involved in.”

This weekend, the Sylacauga community and those from surrounding areas have the opportunity to help the Kiwanis Club serve its purpose when it holds its primary fundraiser, Pancake Day. All proceeds from the “all you can eat” event will go to help children of the community.

In the past, Austin said Pancake Day has served anywhere between 2,000 – 3,000 dine-in or carry-out plates in a single day, but Austin thinks there is no reason to stop there. He hopes to have even more than 3,000 at the 2017 event. While that may seem like a lot of pancakes, Kiwanis has the ability to keep up. Marty Garrett of Kiwanis Club told SylacaugaNews.com they have the a griddle that cooks 24 pancakes every 90 seconds, and two more griddles to help keep pace with the faster eaters.

“The Kiwanis Club of Sylacauga is excited to continue the tradition of Pancake Day in this city,” said Austin. “We are looking to to seeing everyone and getting the community out and supporting us.”

The Pancake Day breakfast will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 6:30 a.m. until noon in the Sylacauga High School lunchroom. Tickets for the event are easily found. They are $5 each and may be purchased at Southern States Bank, Fort Williams Pharmacy, Marble City Pharmacy, B.B. Comer Memorial Library, Chamber of Commerce, or any Kiwanis, Key Club, or Builders Club members. Tickets will also be available at the door.
