SYLACAUGA, Ala. – The Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement will host a Farm-to-Table event at the Sam H. Wright Sylacauga Grows Community Garden on Monday, Nov. 17, featuring nationally known regenerative agriculture advocate Karen Washington of Rise & Root Farm in New York.
The community gathering, scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., begins with a 3:00 p.m. talk titled “Food Justice & Regenerative Agriculture,” in which Washington will discuss the importance of growing food for future generations. The presentation will highlight equity issues in food access and offer guidance on sustainable growing practices.
At 4:00 p.m., local high school students will take part in a regenerative agriculture demonstration, followed by a hands-on garden activity for families and children in the garden’s youth area.
The evening will conclude with a farm-to-table light meal and cooking demonstration from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Chef Chris Auglair and his wife, Erika, co-owners of Brown Butter Bakery in Sylacauga, will prepare dishes using vegetables and herbs grown in the community garden.
Organizers encourage attendees to dress warmly, as all activities will take place outdoors.
